"Is there a need for a new game of pool?" This is a question that I have been asked many times. I say, yes! What need does Bonus Ball fill? It is a game that is designed for "today's" players. It is a game designed for "thinkers". It is a game for those who enjoy a challenge! It is a game designed for both the professional and amateur player, two different versions.

"Advanced" Bonus Ball (three-pocket) is a goal that everyone should be aiming for. This is the version that really stands above the rest. Playing "Advanced" Bonus Ball will strengthen your game by forcing you to improve your bank shots, caroms, combinations and cross banks. The game forces you to shoot these types of shots, far more often than the other traditional games.

The game forces you to think strategy. Both players are sharing all the same balls. You must be extra careful and consider many options before shooting. You must remember that balls re-appear back onto the table, so you must play shape sometimes for a ball that is not even on the table. Just before the re-rack, you must consider that you need the proper shape to break the rack. You must be aware of the time situation. You really want to reach twenty-one points in regulation time. Playing too defensive in Bonus Ball can be your undoing! These are just a few situations that you don't find in other games.

Bonus Ball is a very hard game to run-out. This allows each player several visits to the table before the game ends. I like this for several reasons. One, when you do run a table in Bonus Ball, it really is quite a feat! It does not happen as easily as it does in either nine ball or eight ball. Reason two is that you simply must out play your opponent to win a match because of the extra visits that Bonus Ball brings into play. Bonus Ball games can not be won by a fluke, period. You must score your points and finish the game according to the rules. Never is a game terminated because you scratch or sink a certain ball early in a match.

Now, I realize that most of you do not even know how to play "Advanced" Bonus Ball. I don't advise you to start playing Bonus Ball at that level until you have mastered all the rules of "Six-pocket" Bonus Ball. I just wanted you to know where playing and learning "six-pocket" can lead you to. If you are already a top league player and understand "Six-pocket" Bonus Ball, don't hesitate to print out the PDF rules of "Advanced" Bonus Ball and start playing this level.

I have mentioned many times that "Six-pocket" Bonus Ball plays a lot like Eight Ball. I say that because, the game is much easier for a novice to play than "Advanced" Bonus Ball. Yet, there is still a lot more to playing "Six-pocket" Bonus Ball. You still have a time clock to adhere to. You still have options such as "targeting" the bonus ball, re-racking and yes, balls still re-appear back onto the table if they are illegally pocketed. More meat and potatoes to Bonus Ball.

Playing "Advanced" Bonus Ball will make you much better at banking shots and you will develop the confidence to make a cross cut corner shot to continue to hold the table. You start seeing and doing carom shots a lot more because simply straight potting balls is not always an option in Bonus Ball. All these things are very exciting and fun additions to pool. The difference is quite noticable when you actually go back and play one of the traditional games. Once you master and start playing "Advanced" Bonus Ball, you'll quickly see why the professionals love this game. This is why I encourage you to learn to play Bonus Ball. You'll see the difference yourself!
